"SERVICE TO MANKIND IS SERVICE TO GOD"

ACHIEVEMENTS

Although each patient has an unique human body with difference in conditions, some medical cases are out of the usual. A few such remarkable cases that have been treated at Ramkrishna Sewashram are briefly listed below.

1

MEDICINE & SURGERY: Chanda Devi (33 years) developed an extremely painful Tubal Ectopic Pregnancy even after her Tubectomy. After 1-1/2 months of intense bleeding and other life-threatening problems, her relatives took her to the Government hospital which referred her to a private clinic. That clinic in turn, declined to treat her because she was already in a critical condition and suggested her to go to specialist centers in Varanasi or other bigger cities. Someone then suggested her to try it at Ramkrishna Sewashram Hospital. She arrived at our hospital after evening hours on February 1, 2021 in this situation. Her blood Haemoglobin count was just 6.5. Our surgeon decided to take the challenge and treat her and apprised her family of the implied risks up to the extent of her death.

Two bottles of blood were arranged but even after the transfusion, instead of rising, the Hemoglobin count continued to fall down to 5.8. It meant that the patient was bleeding from an internal hemorrhage and the only way to attempt to save a precious human life was by an emergency surgery. Difficult and dangerous though it was, the team of doctors and surgeons at Ramkrishna Sewashram started the surgery at 11 in the night and completed it at 2 in the morning. But more blood was needed urgently. So, our Hospital Manager Mr. Shashikant Agarwal, who happened to be present on the occasion, volunteered to donate his own blood (as good luck would have it, their blood groups cross-matched). It turned out that Mr. Agarwal’s blood saved the life of Chanda Devi. The operation was successful and she was moved to the newly built ICU (Donated by the Rotary Foundation through Rotary Club Elite, Dist. 3120).

A total of 4 bottles of blood were infused in her body and she was asked to stay in the hospital longer than other patients so that she may recoup her health. On February 10, 2021, she was discharged with prescriptions and instructions.

Her relatives were ecstatic and, on the 12th February, her beaming brother walked into the hospital with a broad smile and a box of sweets to express his pleasure and gratitude.

COVID-19: The administration had taken over Ramkrishna Sewashram and it was converted to a private hospital with all its resources and equipments  in Covid -2 (2020). Oxygen cylinders were an acute scarcity and one of our members ferried cylinders from a government facility. Several other agencies also stood up to support our efforts and the hospital provided efficient Level-1 facility to the town.
